3. Put the startup filter into the pipeline and ensure that the grid arrangement surface of the startup filter is located in the direction of pipeline flow. For large or heavy duty start filters, appropriate material handling equipment should be applied to lift start filters in place.

4. If there is a downstream valve start filter on the outlet side, ensure that the start cue filter does not interfere with the disc, ball, or stem that opens and closes the valve.

Start Up Strainer is the Temporary Strainer that provides 100% or more open area in the cone or basket before adding wire mesh. The catalog sizes show the lengths of the 100%, 150%, 200%, and 300% open areas for each size filter in the cone and basket configurations. These lengths are based on perforated metal, with 1/8 “diameter holes in the 3/16” staggered center, and a plane with 42% open area. When using a flat filter of this material, the opening area is 42%.

Flat filters are recommended only in applications where there is insufficient space for tapered or basket filters. To provide 100% or more open areas, the perforated material must be designed to be tapered or basket-shaped and lengthened to allow for the addition of wire mesh (if any).

The start up strainer has a larger volume and greater surface area than a conical filter of the same length, providing a comparable operating pressure drop. Their required length is shorter, allowing the use of basket filters on shorter pipe runs and with limited pipe availability.

Bucket Type Strainer is made of stainless steel mesh, and the Temporary Strainer can detect specific particles between 50 and 70 microns on average. Most people can’t see anything smaller than 325 mesh or 44 microns. Since 200 mesh equals 74 microns, the general rule is that if the screening device is thicker than 200 mesh, it is a person, and if it is thinner than 200 mesh, it is a filter.
